City hands over parks in Gugulethu and Crossroads.
Three recently upgraded community parks in the suburbs of Gugulethu and Crossroads which now boast a refreshing facelift, were officially handed over to the community on Wednesday, 23 September 2020.
These parks were upgraded at a cost of about R1,8 million; R320
000 for Nceba Park in Crossroads, R500 000 for NY 10 District Park and R1m for Ikhwezi Park, which are both in Gugulethu .
The upgrades have given the parks a fresh inspiring outlook as they now have a five-a-side synthetic soccer pitch with a concrete base, benches and picnic set, upgraded gym equipment, multipurpose courts as well as pathways and paving around the courts.
‘These parks are a testimony to the City's ongoing investment into our communities through the Mayoral Urban Regeneration Programme.
‘The completion of the upgrades of these community parks is a genuine reflection of the City's commitment to improve the living conditions of all people.
We would greatly appreciate if community leaders and the communities
themselves take ownership of these facilities,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.
‘Parks provide a place for families to connect with nature and a space to relax and socialise.
Our parks are a crucial part of our communities and have an impact on the development of our children and the overall well-being of residents.
These upgrades are for the benefit of everyone and I encourage residents to take ownership of these spaces and to utilise them as much as possible,' said the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
