US to host 2026 World Cup...
The United States, Canada and Mexico have won the rights to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The three nations won the bid to host the world's biggest soccer spectacle at an announcement made in Moscow on Wednesday.
FIFA made the announcement
in which the joint bid won 134 of the votes, while Morocco, which also wanted the honours to host the tournament, lost out by 65 votes of the 200 votes cast. One of the voting members opted for neither of the choices.
It's been reported that 210 FIFA executive committee members were present at the vote, with seven abstaining.
In a joint statement, Canada Soccer president Steven Reed; Decio De Maria, the president of the Federación Mexicana de Fúbol Asociaciónas and
Carlos Cordeiro, the president of US Soccer said they will focus on hosting the greatest celebration of football ever seen.
"Over the next eight years, we look forward to working together with everyone that is part of our football family, especially you and fans everywhere, to host the greatest celebration of football the world has ever seen," they said in reaction to the news.
