Jaws-of-Life used to free bus driver in Umhlanga Rocks Smash.
Eight commuters have been left with injuries ranging from minor to moderate, whilst a bus driver has been left with serious injuries, following a collision involving a bus and a truck on the N2 near Gateway earlier this morning.
The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage and will form subject of a SAPS investigation. Traffic was severely affected in the area as part of the roadway remained closed, to allow emergency services space to work.
The bus driver, a male, believed to be approximately forty years of age, was entrapped in the badly damaged bus.
Rescue workers worked fervently, using specialized hydraulic equipment, including the 'Jaws-of-life' to cut him free.
The injured were stabilized on scene before being taken by various ambulances to nearby medical facilities for further care.
