The South African Police Service in this Province are still enjoying the acquisition of heavy jailed terms given to the criminals which is adding more value in the effective and successful fight against crime.
Six criminals were given a consolidated jail term of 103 years imprisonment for murder, carjacking and armed robberies in the Roossenekal, Mecklenburg and Lephalale Policing areas this week respectively.
In Roossenekal outside Groblersdal, Elmon Masango, aged 19, was sentenced to an effective 18 years imprisonment without fine by the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane for killing his own grandmother, Kgarebe Stephina Masango, aged 81, at Padda Dam farm last year on 14 May 2017.
He pleaded guilty on the murder charge where he stated that the sole objective was to take over a cash amount of money that was to be received by the deceased at the time for the sale of her farm.
The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of the South African Firearms Control Act.
Whereas in Mecklenburg outside Burgersfort, three criminals were sentenced for carjacking and armed robbery by the Burgersfort Regional Court.
On 2016-07-27 at Jibeng village the two male accused used a female accused to pretend as if she was hitchhiking at a hiking spot.
Motorists will then be duped and subsequently the two accused will emerge from the nearby bushes and rob the victims from their belongings on gun point.
The intensive investigations were successfully conducted by the local Detectives on all the reported incidents which led to the sentencing on the following accused persons:
* Calvin Ntsoane, aged 34 was sentenced to an effective thirty years imprisonment with no fine on both offences.
* Eric Sekonye, aged 28 was sentenced to an effective thirty years imprisonment without fine on both offences.
* Nthabiseng Mputla, aged 38 was sentenced to an effective ten years imprisonment on both offences.
In Lephalale, Lukas Magwai, aged 29 and Jan Makolota, aged 28 were each sentenced to an effective fifteen years imprisonment for murder by the Lephalale Regional Court.
This jail term emanated from a murder incident that occurred at Marapong Extension 4 on the 22 March 2018 at about 4:00 in the morning. The accused hit the deceased aged 30 with a brick behind his head killing him instantly.
The SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has commended this team of Detectives who worked so tirelessly with professionalism and dedication that led to the conviction and sentencing of these criminals which will send a strong message to all the criminals out there that crime does not pay.
