The Inter-Ministerial Task Team on Water Scarcity has declared the drought conditions in a number of provinces a national disaster. The Task Team is briefing the media in Parliament. The Western, Eastern and Northern Cape provinces are affected as well as the Free State. Dam levels in the Western Cape have been in decline in recent months with water levels standing at an average of just over 20 percent. Level 6B water restrictions are also in place in the Cape Metropole.
