The trial of Henri Van Breda returned to the Cape Town High Court on Monday afternoon, following a two month break in proceedings.

Van Breda's first appearance of 2018 set tongues wagging when he appeared in the dock with a shaved head. He told TimesLive this was a " water-saving measure" . However, matters of gossip were put to one side immediately as Judge Siraj Desai allowed the closing arguments to get underway.

Susan Galloway is an advocate for the prosecution. She spent most of the morning attacking Henri's testimony, and pointing to several flaws in his defence.

Prosecutor Susan Galloway made light work of disparaging the case Van Breda and his defence put together. She pointed to gaping holes in testimony regarding how long it took Henri to alert the police after he says he discovered his murdered family members, and also the inconsistencies surrounding forensic evidence:
