PATIENT AIRLIFTED FOLLOWING SERIOUS PEDESTRIAN VEHICLE COLLISION
A twenty-five year old female has been left fighting for her life after being struck by a minibus taxi earlier this morning.
Crisis Medical Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene of the M25 Kwamashu Highway shortly after 07:30, to find the lady lying in the roadway having suffered critical injuries.
Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize her, before she was placed on to a mechanical ventilator to assist her in breathing.
The assistance of the Department of Health Red Cross Air Mercy Services aeromedical helicopter was summoned and the patient was airlifted to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, where a team of surgeons awaited her arrival.
Traffic was severely affected as the roadway was closed to traffic to allow the aircraft to land.
The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigations into the incident.
