Scores injured in early morning Redhill chaos.
At approximately 08:00 this morning, Crisis Medical Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving two minibus taxis, in the Redhill area.
Paramedics arrived on the scene at the intersection of Chris Hani and Malacca Roads and were greeted by the crumpled frames of a Toyota Quantum and HiAce. As many as twelve commuters clambered to safety and were treated and triaged on the scene as additional resources arrived to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for further definitive care.
Reports from the scene indicate that the HiAce collided into the Quantum in a 'T-Bone' fashion, however, the necessary investigations are still to be concluded as to the cause of the collision and the events preceding it.
Shortly after the initial collision, as emergency services worked to clear the scene, a light delivery vehicle failed to heed early warning and temporary traffic calming mechanisms in place, smashing into a luxury sedan at high speed.
Remarkably the occupants of the sedan sustained no injury and the driver of the delivery vehicle was questioned by local authorities.
We cannot emphasise enough the importance of reducing speed and increasing following distances when approaching a road accident scene, or any temporary road closure or obstruction.
