Blackmailer Demands Payment For Fake Nudes: Verulam - KZN A resident of Verulam, KZN contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) today (Wednesday, 10/11/2021) requesting assistance to create awareness surrounding social media scams.
The victim informed Reaction Officers that he received a message via Whatsapp by a person claiming to
be a female named Chane from Port Elizabeth.
She informed him that she obtained his contact number from his Facebook profile.
He was then sent a collage of pictures of himself extracted from his Facebook and Instagram page.
Two other pictures were added to the collage showing a penis.
The victim assured Officers that he did not send images of his penis and that the blackmailer most likely downloaded it from the internet.
The person sending the messages asked for R650 to be paid to them or the images would be posted on various social media platforms.
There were also threats of the pictures being sent to his employer and if the monies were not paid then his life will be ruined.
The blackmailer also informed
him that she had done this to other men who refused to pay up.
The victim informed the sender that he would only be able to send the cash once he gets paid at the end of the month.
The extortionist then raised the amount to R1200.
As their conversation continued the person lowered the amount to R200.
The man then blocked the contact however continued receiving threatening messages from a different number.
He refused to send any money and blocked the second number as well.
In some cases the blackmailer poses as a female and sends downloaded nude pictures from the internet to their victims.
The victims would then forward nude pictures of themselves.
The victims are then blackmailed into transferring cash into E-Wallet accounts to avoid the pictures being made public.
In several cases victims are too embarrassed to register criminal cases and end up blocking the blackmailer hoping that the pictures do not surface on the internet.
