Angry mob turns on cops after man is shot, killed by Yeoville police.

Yeoville SAPS responded to allegations that a man was shot by police earlier today which resulted in tonight's gathering outside Yeoville SAPS by an angry mob. The man was later declared dead by paramedics.
Capt Sifiso Mabizela from Yeoville SAPS Corporate Communications Johannesburg District said at 12.30pm, on Yeo and Bedford streets, two Yeoville SAPS members were in the basement when they heard gunshots.
"They responded and saw a man firing shots into the air. Members ordered him to surrender the firearm but he didn't comply with the police orders.
"He pointed the firearm towards the police members and fired. Members retaliated, " said Mabizela.
"The man was hit below the armpit and stomach. Paramedics were summoned and the man was certified dead on the scene, " said Mabizela.
"The firearm of the deceased was recovered. IPID and other role players were summoned to the scene, " Mabizela said.
"It is a ‘war zone' outside the Yeoville SAPS at this time, " reports EXPRESS journalist Tshepiso Mametela.
"Police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the angry crowd as they attempted to break down the main entry gate into the police station.
"The crowd prevented cars from entering or leaving the premises, hurling rocks at cars as well as at the station building, " reports Mametela who is still on the scene.
No injuries have been reported so far.
The Public Order Police have being called out to the scene to control the crowd as they are burning tyres at the main entry points to the police precinct at Fortsque and Kenmere streets.
JMPD, Johannesburg Social Crime Prevention, Johannesburg K9 and other units have just arrived on scene.
