Former President Jacob Zuma's application for a permanent stay of prosecution is being heard by a full bench of judges. They are Judge Esther Steyn, Judge Jerome Mnguni and Judge Thoba Dlwati. Zuma is appearing with his new legal team headed by advocate Muzi Sikhakhane after senior counsel, advocate Mike Hellens, is believed to have parted ways with the former president. Zuma and his co-accused, the French arms company Thales, want charges against them quashed permanently. They are arguing that they don't believe they will get a fair trial, citing the lengthy time it has taken for the NPA to prosecute them. The matter has been set down for the whole week in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
