Staff members at SABC in the Western Cape are in mourning following the death of one of its technicians, Patrick Mgoqi.
He was shot and killed at a car wash in Khayelitsha last night.
It's believed Mgoqi was trying to protect a young woman from being assaulted by a suspect when an
altercation started.
Police say no one has been arrested yet regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, the SABC has described 47 year old Mgoqi as a loving and a caring colleague who was dedicated to his work, family and friends.
They say his death is a great loss to the Western Cape region.
The SABC says Mgoqi will be missed for his cheerful character, playful nature and work ethic.
Mgoqi leaves behind his mother, wife and three children, including those of his sister whom he cared for.
Details of a memorial service will be announced at a later stage.
