Two Lucky To Escape Death As Car Smashes Into Palm Tree - Umhlanga Ridge

An elderly female and a domestic worker were lucky to escape death when the light motor vehicle they were travelling in smashed into a palm tree on

Umhlanga Ridge's Millenium Way earlier today.

Crisis Medical and other emergency services arrived on the scene to find to the driver and passenger, both females aged between forty and seventy years of age, were entrapped in the wreckage.

Hydraulic rescue equipment including the jaws-of-life was needed to cut them free from the wreckage before they were placed onto specialised stretchers used for the treatment and prevention of suspected spinal cord injuries and transported through to hospital under the care and

supervision of intermediate life support medics for further care.

Traffic was severely affected as two lanes were closed to traffic to allow emergency services space to work, the necessary authorities were on scene to assist.

The cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a SAPS investigation.
