#Crime Must Fall EASTERN CAPE - MEC for Community Safety, Mrs Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe handed over award certificates as a token of appreciation to over 100 members that are deployed for Bityi and surrounding areas.
It has been four months since the team has been deployed for
Bityi and surrounding villages, as a response to numerous cries by stock owners complaining of rampant crime and as a result of this deployment there are successes in recovery of stolen stock as well as illegal Firearms and ammunition.
About 1332 live ammunition have been confiscated from suspects in Bityi, 121 Firearms, 488 stock recovered and handed over to lawful owners, 220 Stock recovered and 137 dangerous weapons, a number of Cellphones, toy guns and R45 000 worth of liquor was confiscated with some taverns closed down for non-compliance.
As part of the programme, was a social responsibility initiative that was done in conjunction with King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality and local businesses where ten (10) food parcels and school
uniforms were donated to needy families that were identified by members as they went about their duties.
