Eight Injured In Early Morning M4 Smash.
Eight people have been left with injuries ranging from moderate to critical following a serious motor vehicle collision this morning.
Crisis Medical paramedics arrived on the scene of the south bound carriageway of the Ruth First Highway near to the Swapo Road bridge, just before 6am, to find the twisted frame of a Toyota Avanza occupying the roadway.
Indications from the scene suggested the vehicle had rolled several times before coming to a rest on its side.
Three occupants of the vehicle were ejected in the roll over, with a female, believed to be approximately twenty five years of age, having sustained critical injuries. Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise her on scene, before she was taken by ambulance under the care of an Emergency Care Practitioner to nearby Addington Hospital for further care.
Two other occupants ejected suffered moderate injury, whilst five others clambered to safety from the wreckage.
A triage area was established on scene and additional resources were dispatched. Once treated and stabilized, the remaining injured commuters were transported to hospital for further care.
At this stage the cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.
