City's winter preparedness efforts under way in Browns Farm, Philippi.
On Wednesday, 28 April 2021, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase, visited Browns Farm in Philippi to oversee the City preparing for winter.
One of the roads and infrastructure teams was busy cleaning gullies in areas that are
prone to flooding during winter.
These efforts form part of the City's overall Winter Preparedness Programme, which the City's Transport Directorate is currently rolling out across Cape Town.
Teams from the City's Roads and Infrastructure depots are targeting the areas that are worst affected by extensive illegal dumping and the blocking of stormwater drains.
The capacity at the depots are increased with the temporary employment of Expanded Public Works Programme workers.
This way we can reach as many of these areas as possible ahead of the winter rains.
