President Cyril Ramaphosa has painted a bleak picture of the country's economic conditions worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The unemployment rate is now at a staggering 30.8%.
Ramaphosa says there were 1.7 million fewer people employed in the third quarter of 2020 than there were in the first quarter before
the pandemic struck.
He says the social and economic relief package introduced by government last year is the largest intervention of its kind in history.
It assisted the poorest households, provided wage support to workers and various forms of relief to struggling business.
Ramaphosa also announced the extension of the Covid-19 grant of R350 by a further three months.
He says the grant has been an effective and efficient short term measure to reduce the immediate impact the Covid-19 pandemic."https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/149724078_3957769254275429_1985626426900263689_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=3&_nc_sid=8024bb&_nc_ohc=JKfO2CLKUFgAX-pxO3-&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&oh=740aed2ffe7647dcd8fd22dfc6d13362&oe=604A9016"
