Gas explosion led to the arrest of two #abalone poachers WESTERN CAPE - During the early hours of this morning at around 00:03 members of Stellenbosch police attended to an explosion of a gas bottle at a residence in Cynaroides Road Paradyskloof.
Upon their arrival, the fire brigade was busy
gaining access to the house to extinguish the fire.
The members conducted their investigation surrounding the circumstances of the incident when they came across a huge quantity of abalon e with an expected street value of R 900 000-00 and abalone drying equipment value at around R 60 000-00 in the house.
Two Zimbabwean males aged 23 and 26 were arrested for the illegal possession of abalone, while the Chinese man in who's name the property was leased is being sought.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in Stellenbosch.
In an unrelated police intervention last night, members attached to the Provincial Organised Team conducted an operation aimed at the illegal possession of drugs in
Lwandle.
Random searches in the area led to the arrest of a 32 year old male who was caught in possession of an assortment of drugs valued at around R15000-00 and a 34 year old male who had dagga and madrax with a street value of R8000-00 in his possession.
They are both scheduled to appear in Strand Magistrates court once they have been charged.
