KwaZulu-Natal: Earlier this morning members from Durban Search and Rescue along with Metro Police Search and Rescue, Durban Fire and Rescue, Life Response, EMRS, Rescue Care and DUT Emergency Medicine Instructors were called out to a scene in Newlands East, intersection of Barracuda Drive and Herring circle.
Pedestrians heard the infant\'s cries emitting from a sewerage manhole on the sidewalk. A Rescue Operation was conducted whereby the new born baby girl, with placenta attached was rescued.
A 2m trench was excavated. Once the walls of the trench were shored, the storm water pipe was cut from where the new born baby was pulled out and rescued. Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the new born before being flown by AMS helicopter to Albert Luthuli hospital.
