The DA and several other stakeholders, including the Garden Route District Municipality, have threatened legal action against the Presidency and the Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs over the closure of beaches along the Garden Route in the Western Cape.
Lawyers for some of the parties have requested reasons
for the decision by 5 O'Clock this afternoon.
On Monday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the region was one of three top Covid-19 hotsp ots.
Government's stance on beaches along the Garden Route has drawn sharp criticism from some groups.
They've threatened to go to court to try and overturn the decision saying it is a blow to the local economy.
They say the Garden Route is dependent on tourism for survival.
The Grootbrak business forum, guest house owners and Afriforum are part of those that are threatening legal action.
In a letter to the President, the DA says the move is unconstitutional and violates freedom of movement.
Under new restrictions, all beaches in the region will be closed
from today until 3 January.
