Six by-elections will take place in the Western Cape today.
One each will take place in the City of Cape Town, Langeberg Muncipality as well as the Overstrand Municipality.
The other three will take place in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.
The IEC says strict safety measures and protocols are
in place at voting stations to ensure the safety of all voters, election staff, observers and other stakeholders.
The by-elections in Oudtshoorn follows three DA resignations.
The counci llors allegedly tendered their resignations, in solidarity with former Oudtshoorn Mayor, Colan Sylvester - who also resigned earlier this year.
Sylvester was allegedly pushed out by the party.
In 2016 he secured a DA win for Oudtshoorn in local government elections.
While the DA lost its outright majority after the resignations, they joined forces with two small parties - the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (ICOSA) and the South African Religious Civic Organisation (SARCO).
