The South African Weather Service has issued a warning regarding heavy rain expected over the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, especially along the coast and adjacent interior.
Showers and thundershowers are expected from this afternoon and will become heavy from early in the morning on Wednesday, 06 December 2017, until approximately 2pm. Thereafter rainfall is expected to moderate. 24 hour rainfall expectations suggest that places along the coast may reach 70-80mm.
Residents should not panic but take precautionary measures to ensure safety during this period. These measures include staying indoors and off the roads (where possible), avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped within a vehicle by rising waters, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground. Residents living in informal settlements are also advised to secure their roof sheeting.
Residents are requested to please only call the Disaster Management Call Centre for emergencies on 031 361 0000.
