Police Minister, Bheki Cele, has been warmly received by residents in Lower Crossroads near Gugulethu during police operations in the area. Cele conducted an impromptu roadblock in Gugulethu before participating in a raid on an illegal shebeen in Lower Crossroads. Police subsequently confiscated alcohol, mostly cases of beer, from the place. The owner, a 52 year old woman, confessed to Cele that she was forced to sell without a licence just so she can feed her six children. He later interacted with residents and youth in the area asking them about challenges related to crime. Cele, accompanied by police top brass in the province, is also expected to interact with community members from Gugulethu and Philippi later today. The two areas have seen recent violent protests in demand of land and housing.
