The ANC in the Western Cape has called for calm in Crossroads following the murder of a Provincial Executive Committee member last night. Fifty-year-old Elese Depouche, who was also a former city councillor, was gunned down while sitting in his car in his driveway. ANC provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs says, " We call for the perpetrators, both of this crime and previous crimes, to be brought to justice. I have just asked the police commissioner to do the audit of the outstanding politically linked cases. We want to get to the bottom of this case. We are sad today as we have lost a fallen comrade". In the 1980s, Depouche was involved in the political tension between the notorious vigilante group, the Witdoeke and UDF supporters.
