Suspects Arrested / Vehicle Recovered: Verulam - KZN
Two suspects were arrested and a BMW was recovered following a high speed chase
which started at the Palmview Intersection and ended in Verulam.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa received a call for assistance after Officers from the Durban Flying Squad attempted to stop the vehicle which sped off. During the chase
the suspects fired at pursuing Officers. The chase
ended in Clover Lane in Mountview after the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a dense bush. Upon inspection of the vehicle several house break-in implements as well as computer boxes belonging to different models of vehicles were recovered. The vehicle also had false number plates stuck over the original ones.
Reaction Officers, the Verulam SAPS, Metro Police and several private security companies joined in the search for the suspects who fled through the bush, crossed Inanda Road and sought refuge in the Brindhaven area. The RUSA Robinson R44 helicopter took off and assisted Officers on the ground in the search.
One suspect was spotted jumping over a boundary wall on Geranium Road. Reaction Officers and Police entered the property and arrested the suspect. He was found in possession of a knife. A second suspect was arrested by the Verulam SAPS. Two suspects still remain at large. The suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate involved in theft of motor vehicles and house break-ins.
Both suspects are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
