International Clothing Retailer H&M has temporarily closed all its stores across South Africa. This comes as several stores were vandalised by EFF supporters in Johannesburg. Protests were also staged at Cape Town stores. The issue stems from an advertisement released by H&M in which a black child is modelling a hoodie with the slogan 'coolest monkey in the jungle'. It has s caused a public outcry on social media. The company removed the advert from its website earlier this week. In a statement the company says it strongly believes that racism and bias in any shape or form, deliberate or accidental, is simply unacceptable. H&M says none of its staff, employees and customers were injured during the protests. It could not confirm when the stores would re-open as it is assessing the situation.
