On Monday, 2017-12-25 at about 03:00, Mitchells Plain police were busy with crime prevention and visible patrols in Weltevreden Park Way, Westgate when they spotted a suspicious Toyota Avanza. The driver refused to stop when signalled by police who then gave chase. When the vehicle stopped, a male climbed out of the vehicle and a firearm fell on the ground.
A female occupant then also climbed out the vehicle and informed police that she was pointed with a firearm and raped by the suspect and an accomplice. Members confiscated a black .38 Special Rossi with serial number, one magazine and four live rounds. A 22-year-old male was arrested for possession of a firearm without a licence and a second charge of possession of ammunition. Further charges are expected to be added. The suspect is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court today.
In an unrelated case, on Friday 2017-12-22 at about 22:30 Mitchells Plain police attended a complaint of a shooting in Hartebees Street, Eastridge, Mitchells Plain. Upon their arrival, they saw an unknown male lying in the road. The deceased had been shot in the back and passed away on the scene. Further investigation by members led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 30 and 26. The suspects face a charge of murder. The one suspect later pointed out where the firearm was to police. Members confiscated a 9mm Luger firearm, a magazine and nine 9mm rounds. The arrested suspects are due to appear in Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court today.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula commended the members and said that their actions ensured that more illegal Firearms and ammunitions were removed from the communities of Mitchells Plain.
